Cops on bikes. Cops on horses rocking to Darryl Brathwaite’s The Horses. Cops on segways. What else can cops get on to catch pesky thieves and criminals?
The Pakistan Police force have brought in Cops on Roller Blades. Yes, it’s the year 2021 and Blade Gunners are running the streets with high tech roller blades and pistols ….well any reference to Blade Runner ends about here.
The Karachi Police is certainly in with the trend as roller blading busted some serious moves for a comeback in 2020.
Keeping in line with workforce changes during the COVID19 pandemic and enforcing social distancing with their partners in police cars, the 20-member blade gunners, 10 male and 10 female coppers, underwent a month of intensive rollerblading training and will now be blading around the city’s narrow alley ways, shopping centres and gorgeous beach fronts.
Apparently, it’s been reported these blade gunners will be more effective chasing thieves on motorbikes! I am not convinced, I am pretty certain motorbikes can outrun these super Karachi Blade Gunners.
Pakistan is not the first country to introduce Blade Gunners. In fact, the team of 8 Blader Gunners in Paris have become a fashion statement. Spending more time posing for selfies and doing PR work than real police work for the past 20 years.
London is another example, however gave up on the program when the crims outsmarted Blade Gunners by escaping on grass.
It seems The Karachi Blade Gunners may have some work to do to diviy up their territory, and figure out how to blade across pot holes, rivers and banana peels. Whether they will be effective or become another tourism campaign, we shall have to wait and see.
Either way, thieves watch out! The Karachi Blade Gunners are coming for you!
But I hope we don’t have to wait too long for … wait for it…cops on hover boards. Just like Back to the Future! How cool and effective would that be?
