TV/WEB PILOT

Our TV/web pilot, Enter the Bagrat, brings a unique but much needed creative narrative that showcases the Asian Australian community and Australians with an interest in Asia.

In 2021, our TV Pilot Show concept was a top 10 finalist for the ABC iView Pitch-O-Rama contest. The concept founded by JJ Chen, mentored by Dr Helen Vatsikopoulos, award winning journalist, academic and lecturer in journalism at UTS; and brought to life by creative producer, Mayu Iwasaki, co-founder of Bubbletent Australia and actress, and Director Lenny Fung, who has worked on Studio10, Doctor Doctor, Amazing Grace, Home and Away, among other prominent Australian dramas.

A big shout out to our earliest believer and sponsor, Bendigo Bank Darling Square Community Branch for giving us seed funding to see this concept come to life!

MAYU IWASAKI

CREATIVE PRODUCER + HOST

Mayu is a bilingual Japanese-born actress. She has been working in Tokyo, New York, Chicago, and recently moved back to Sydney. Her recent projects include a leading role on SBS’s Top Knot Detective working with Lee Lin Chin, Sydney Theatre Company’s production Pearl and host of Erth’s Dinosaur Zoo.

She is often told her nationality is ambiguous, since she speaks her mind like a Westerner, but doesn’t fully look like an Easterner but she still does the V sign in photos. Go figure!

Mayu is also the co-founder of Bubbletent Australia, voted the top eco-tourism destination in Australia. Mayu enjoys working in collaborative projects within various mediums whether in the creative arts industry or business.

Her education and training span across international borders at NIDA, UNSW, Japan Academy of Moving Image, Atlantic Theatre Company in New York, and SITI. She also works as a translator and freelance movement teacher (currently at NYFA).

Mayu is very excited to return to Australia and continue to build her creative experiences in the Sydney community. She is equally passionate about building the Asian + Australian community and advocating for more representation of Asian Australians in the film/tv/theatre industry.
